Book Description
This Open Educational Resource (OER), developed by Elaine Kelly of the TUS Athlone Disability Support Service, explores the implementation of Inspiration Mind Mapping software as a tool to support student learning at the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest (TUS). The initiative aimed to address common challenges students face when organising ideas, planning assignments, and engaging with complex course material, particularly for those who benefit from visual and accessible learning approaches. Supported by the Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement (SATLE) Fund, the project introduced the software through classroom demonstrations and online training sessions with students from Applied Social Care at TUS and the Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD). Inspiration enables students to visually organise ideas, convert mind maps into structured outlines, and present information effectively, supporting diverse learning styles and aligning with Universal Design for Learning principles. Feedback from participating students and staff was highly positive, indicating increased confidence, improved organisation of academic work, and strong interest in using the software for tasks such as brainstorming, essay planning, and research. Overall, the case study highlights the potential of visual learning tools like Inspiration to enhance student engagement, promote inclusive learning, and support more structured and creative academic practices
