Abstract

Sepsis is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide and is characterised by a life-threatening dysregulated host immune response. Effective disease modelling is critical for advancing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. However, existing in vitro and in vivo models fail to capture the full spectrum of the disease, limiting their translational relevance. To address this gap, the present study aims to explore organ-on-chip technology as a novel model for sepsis, replicating the endothelial environment under physiological blood flow conditions and inducing sepsis using established methodologies. This approach may provide a more relevant system for disease mechanisms and organ interactions, potentially identifying candidates for therapeutic interventions.
